许多公司 assume the digital twin belongs inside the PLM system。PLM has long been the destination for product data, change management, and lifecycle tracking。但 most accurate and useful digital twins will not begin in PLM—they will begin in CAD, because CAD is the only environment that captures how a product is meant to behave before it ever exists.
A twin is not simply a data replica—it is a living model that should understand geometry, behavior, constraints, relationships, and change over time。PLM handles metadata, revisions, workflows and documents, but it does not describe how the product works。If a twin cannot understand the intent behind the model, its predictions will be shallow.
Newer CAD platforms are beginning to embed behavior directly into the model。Designers define how assemblies move, how constraints interact, and how forces travel through structures。Behavioral modeling creates the foundation a digital twin needs to compare reality with expectation.
Digital twins promise predictive insight, but prediction requires a baseline that must come from the original design model。PLM holds administrative truth; CAD holds engineering truth。Prediction depends on intent, and intent lives in CAD.
在 Zixel,我们相信数字孪生应该从产品开始的地方开始。Our cloud-native approach makes the CAD model a living state that connects design, manufacturing, and field data。
